Like any proud papa, I think my baby is the best. I don't care if it is unruly, doesn't play nice with others, and isn't the brightest bulb in the pack. It's still mine and it's awesome! With that said I thought I would share some photos I took of my Speed3 when I picked her up from the dealership.
And one of her in the snow, just to show that lots of torque-steer and winter can get along!
Got any photos of your baby? Post/link them in the comments!

I shall take you up on that challenge my fellow Torque Steerer!
Once I finish my beer and sober up. Considering I've had a couple of bottles so far....umm, maybe in a few hours.
Until then, cheers!

Still a very fun car! My buddy has a 2.5L Mazda3 Sport. Great car. He tossed a short through shifter plate on it and now he loves it even more!

Ha, ya, great shot! That's Alberta for you. Dirty the second you drive out of the wash bay.
What do you shoot with, if I may ask?

That's a very nice lens!
I shoot Canon as well. If you ever want to try out the 135mm f/2 or the 24mm f/1.4 II let me know. We can do an impromptu to car shoot.

A bit cool for me in the winter. Have friends in Edmonton and Spruce Grove.

Yea, we usually have a few weeks in the -30c to -40c range each winter. Block heaters are a must.

It's a fine DD but I really miss the Subie LGT wagon that I traded for it. It will hold me over till I can afford another sweet wagon.

That certainly beats the three days of -40 I had in Ottawa last winter (after living in Toronto all my life). Kind of want to see what it would be like to go through several weeks of it.

It involves almost no time outdoors. When I moved to Canada to go to College I was given a Nike ACG Summit Coat, the kind with a fur lined hood that closed up so you looked like Kenny from South Park. It was sort of a joke gift from the family, however I usually end up using it (12 years later) at least a few times per year.
Typically you dress for it, make sure the car is plugged in overnight, and give yourself an extra 5-10 minutes in the morning to let the car warm up. It's not awful, but it certainly isn't what I'd call fun. Winter tires are also a must.

My co-worker picked up a used S4 V8 wagon with a standard transmission for a very reasonable price. If I could find one of those I'd be a very happy camper!
Hot Hatch/Wagons are my favorite segment of vehicles. Tones of fun and holds everything you want to bring with you.

For sure on the car preparations. The last thing you want is to be stranded in that weather.
For Christmas I got a Canadian Forces parka. It has served me very well on the "my balls are going to freeze together" days.
The no outdoors advice sounds solid as well. The online map for my university has two choices for directions: quickest route, and warmest route.

They are rare but tempting however after being burned with a maintenance money pit with the Subie I think I will hold out for something newer. Im saving my monies with the goal of picking up a V60 R-design down the road.

Great choice! My Dad got a used S60 (2011 I think) loaded T5 at auction. It give my Speed3 a very strong run for it's money. If I catch the wrong gear, he'll get away. A 2011 V60 R would be a wicked wagon to have.

Got any plans for her?

Yup, they are all over. Almost every parking lot, most businesses, the International Airport, etc.. Having a block heater installed in the car is typically part of PDI up here. Usually the businesses/parking lots have the outlets on a 15 minuet on/off cycle to save power to to reduce the risk of the car catching on fire. Because, unfortunately, it happens.
That is often due to the cord being damaged and not from the actual heater, but still.

Nice! I ordered a Corksport SRI with heat shield and Turbo Inlet pipe for my MS3 with similar mileage. I've been going the weight reduction route ever since. It's hard to leave these turbo hatches alone once you get them.

Thanks! I've been loving the Speed3 so far.
I really like the Gen 1 in blue, looks great on that car. There is a local Gen 1 owner that has done a lot of work on his. I'm trying to find the youtube video of it, but can't seem to locate it right now. He did a total engine rebuild. It was quite the project.
EDIT:
Found them.
I got passed by this guy on the freeway. Other than being able to see a large FMIC behind the front bumper, and a slightly lower than stock ride height, his car looks bone stock. It is a very nice little sleeper. He is putting a lot of power through the front wheels, but I'm sure it's manageable.

That's pretty crazy, I think I'd be satisfied with the stock power of the Speed, but keep the car looking like it does. It'd be sleeperish enough for me then. I'm seriously considering getting a 2014 3.

I've been reading some really good things about the 2014. I'd love to drive one when they come out.
